How Brad Stevens and Google Taught Me to Be a Better Coach At a coaches basketball conference, Brad Stevens shared she has a bit following his inidual workouts with players called Dreamtime. This is when you decides what to work with. When I first heard him point out that it forced me to be raise an eyebrow and think "wait... what?" Isn't the coach's job in order to identify areas his players should develop, determine the essential drills, and place in the hours to help you his player improve? Isn't it part of my job like a teacher to explain to my player how doing the drills I assign him is likely to make him a much better player along with help the team? Why would I not take benefit from my time with the gamer, but provide reigns up to this teenager who might undermine what I've been attempting to implement? Because freedom makes players better! Brad gave a fantastic illustration of Matt Howard. Matt Howard was obviously a forward/center for Butler University and played several years with a minumum of one foot inside paint always. Amazing products, like Gmail and Google News, happen to be manufactured by engineers throughout their 20% time. It was, i think, the best demonstration of going for a founding pillar of one of several best run companies in the world and putting it on to a basketball team. When we read or learn about company employee programs that actually work, so why do us coaches not apply these phones our basketball teams? Brad Stevens has, and he's back-to-back national championship game appearances to prove it works. I began to question myself a lot more questions and wondered what lessons I had missed out on at different elite basketball coaches conferences. In my mission for improve my coaching skills, my colleagues and I sought after a prepared an accumulation of notes from different conferences to find out what we should could learn and sign up for our respective teams. I decided I would will no longer try and "figure out on my own" and learn as I go. If others have previously found different building blocks to success, I'll start where they left off.
